I think you could use these examples for head hunters NOT to be successful in any economy! They want you to relo, probably to somewhere that you don't want to go. All of them want to get you excited about the position they are trying to fill, with many of them, after you provide your resume and ancillary information, you either never hear from them again, or they give you some "chicken shit" ( and there's lot of this out there!) excuse about why the hiring employer is not interested. It usually stems from the fact that they DID NOT CAREFULLY READ YOUR RESUME!!!! Bottom Line...they waste your time that you could have better spent pursuing more viable job opportunities.
Job hunting is VERY frustrating!
Personally, my job went away because of structural changes at my prior employer. It is likely that it may never come back. The good news lately, is that I have been getting phone calls and interviews from potential employers. This is NOT THE TIME to give up, but to dig in our heels and to "fight the good fight!"

How long in this economy does it take to find acceptable employment? My neighbor who does customer service was between jobs for 5 months. On TV, they had a marketing executive who was unemployed for a year. How deep in despair do we get? All of us have thresholds... what we will do to land a job. Some people will dye their hair or spend thousands of dollars for plastic surgery to look younger. Others go back to school for retraining. Some, like me, just try to hope... if there is such a thing, and survive from day to day.
Employers are very specific about what they want. They also have time on their side to wait for the ideal candidate to walk through their door. In the meantime, I patiently wait, as I know that my opportunity will come.

Did you ever experience the callousness of the employed? How they take customers and time for granted? Perhaps they are a nephew or a niece and will never walk the road that I and many others are currently walking. Today, I was waiting for a package of temperature sensitive medication. Without this medication, my chronic disease gets out of control and I feel very ill. I called UPS dispatch at 5 pm to get some idea when the UPS delivery man would arrive. She told me by 7 pm at the latest. My wife and I ran some errands and at 7 pm, still no UPS man. We went out, but before we did that, we asked a neighbor to sign for this package and put a very visible note for the UPS driver to deliver the package to # 107 instead of # 408. We get back, and the note is still there, with a ticket from the driver that he rang # 408...no answer. Remember, he had a large note telling him to drop off the package at # 107. This was not carelessness, but WANTON carelessness! I would bet anyone reading this blog today that he didn't even attempt to call # 107, as he was running behind. Of course, the customer suffers and this guy can hold a job, as incompetent as he is that pays $25 an hour with full benefits and overtime. He likely has done this to other customers and will do it to more in the future. He gets rewarded for bad behavior. Next time, I will instruct my medicine supplier to use Federal Express, Air Cargo, or Service by Air...anyone other than UPS. Perhaps if more fed up customers complained and just stopped doing business with companies that retain wantonly careless employees, that would send a message to them and hurt them on their bottom line. I am passionate about this, as I have been looking for work along with many of my friends, and most of us would appreciate $25 per hour plus benefits. The world as we know it just does not seem fair.
A church in Melrose Park just received 2 gold crowns for statues that they have in their place of worship. I am certain that they were expensive as they were imported from Italy. In these times when people are losing their jobs, getting their hours reduced, not receiving any increases in pay and are getting benefits taken away from them, a church which we expect to provide charity to the needy is paying big money to adorn statues. What's wrong with this picture? The pastor of this church needs to sell these crowns and use the proceeds to help needy families in the Melrose Park community, which is plagued by still factories, or resign because he is flagrantly, like the UPS man NOT doing his job or the work of Christ Jesus.

While dumbing down may to some seem like a "quick fix," at the point I am in my career, it would be a poor strategy. Many people have viewed my profiles on the Internet, read some of the articles that I have written and have vetted my credentials. I would be advertising that there is something wrong with me that I cannot pick a direction and focus on accomplishing my end state goal. That would show lack of leadership on my part. From my experience, ( and I'm certain from yours as well) companies seek out critical thinkers who are not afraid to offer solutions to their problems. That's the road less traveled that takes courage and faith in God to walk.
I choose to take this road.
I choose to take this road.

Today was NOT a good day. I started out early with the best of intentions trying to be as prepared as I could be for the interview at 7 am this morning. I was immediately able to relate to Rick, the HR guy that I met with. It seems that he may have been in transition himself, and understood the road that I have been traveling. I later met with Darrell and Les , two procurement executives with the company. The first question or two, I handled well. I don't get it that I was asked to (in chronological order) detail each position that I held in the past 10 years. It would seem to me that the answer to this type of question would take more than 2 minutes, and suddenly, after I began providing the questioner with the information that he was seeking, he felt an urgency to go to a meeting. In my mind, I found this as poor interview etiquette as it is essential to plan enough time to have a professional interchange with the candidate. Where did they leave this? They said that the position is an immediate need and they are interviewing more people. They said that the HR guy would contact me about their decision to pursue or not pursue.
I scheduled myself to attend a few more webinars, in an effort to stay relevant in my field and to maintain my certification. I also filed a few more applications and answered some e-mails. I hope to get together with my friend Barry who's in HR. He's a "heavy hitter" who usually has some great insight on business problems.
I read that some people who are unemployed, especially for a year or more get discouraged and eventually just give up. Many simply just file for disability. I truly hope that is not my path.
Please pray for me and all others like me who are seeking gainful and dignified employment.

Today was a productive day.
I saved some money for my family by working with the condo association board president and maintenance man to save some money by switching TV providers. Master dishes are already installed on the rooftop.
I went to the podiatrist that I have known for 25 years. She gave me an injection to settle down my heel spur in my left foot. This will abate my limp which is unacceptable on job interviews.
I attended a webinar called Business Integration Planning and S&OP to keep current on my supply chain skills.
Lastly, my uncle Harry passed away today as all of us would want to...eating his favorite foods- a hamburger and a milk shake.
